Function: Heavy Goods Vehicle Driver / Mechanic
Vehicle Technicians, Mechanics, and Electricians are within the purview of the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) number 5231.
Place of activity: the United Kingdom
In terms of responsibilities:
Identifying problems with the vehicle’s engine and other mechanical components through the use of visual inspections, test drives, and diagnostic equipment
removing, disassembling, fixing, and replacing broken components, as well as preparing new components with the use of the proper tools.
Reassembling, testing, modifying, and tuning the relevant components, whether they be individual systems or the entire engine
Checking the oil, the air filters, the brakes, and any other parts or systems of the vehicle as part of its regular maintenance.
locating and identifying problems in electrical and electronic circuits, removing problematic components, and installing replacements
Conducting inspections of electrical and electronic systems while also attending to maintenance responsibilities
Installing supplementary electrical conveniences such as radio and CD players, aerials, etc.
Performing maintenance and repairs on cooling, heating, and air conditioning systems, as well as engine cooling systems.
Conditions for Participation:
It would be advantageous to have some sort of formal qualification in the relevant discipline, such as GCSEs or S grades, or an equivalent qualification.
Apprenticeships or hands-on training at NVQ or SVQ Levels 2 and 3, or other certifications of a comparable nature
A track record of success in a comparable profession, such as that of an HGV mechanic or vehicle technician.
Exceptional problem-solving skills and careful attention to detail Effective oral and written communication abilities
Capable of working both independently and collaboratively when necessary.
